Academic Life

A Kingsmead education is a bespoke education – transformative for your child and life-changing for your family. The school’s programme of enhanced learning continues to produce an exceptional academic record. Specialist teaching in swimming, music and IT start as young as three years old and extra curricular options such as ballet and violin are on offer from Year One onwards.

All Junior and Senior pupils are tested using the GL Progress in Maths and Progress in English tests at the end of each academic year. This gives us a standardised score, helping to inform us about a child’s progress and also helping to set targets. Our results show excellent ‘value added’ progress across all ability levels, with pupils often achieving well beyond early predictions.

Throughout Senior school, the foundations are set in place for GCSE level study with separate Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) from Year 7, teaching in ability sets in Maths, French and the Sciences as well as offering a curriculum with a core set of academic and creative subjects.

Kingsmead GCSE options provide a sound preparation for post-16 education and the recently opened Sixth Form offers a substantial curriculum delivered with a high level of individual attention.

There are many creative and sporting activities involving music, drama, performance and artistic opportunities as well as an extensive PE provision, where every child is offered the chance to play on a school team.

Every pupil is both challenged and supported academically and our rounded approach to educating children ensures they are future-ready, for whatever path lays ahead
