Kingsmead is a traditional British family school, which has educated successive generations of families. This continuity greatly strengthens the values and traditions which make Kingsmead such an exceptional place.
Our excellent facilities, which are located on a 23-acre campus, include the original Victorian school buildings alongside a state-of-the-art modern senior block. The international boarders’ accommodation is on-campus in the homely and comfortable Meadway Cottages for the girls and Watts House for the boys.
Overseas pupils can join us from the age of 9 and at any time thereafter in their school life. There is specialist support for children studying English as a second language and Kingsmead’s caring and nurturing ethos ensures that newcomers integrate quickly, and are happy and thrive.
Our strong links with leading multi-nationals provides a range of outside-the-classroom experiences from factory visits to inspiring talks and lectures. Activities outside the curriculum are equally varied with outdoor pursuits playing a large role – with the Royal Liverpool Golf Club on our doorstep unsurprisingly golf is among them! Other less physical pursuits include concert trips, dance, visits to art galleries in Liverpool and Manchester and craftwork.
All pupils who live outside the UK are required to have a guardian, and the Guardianship Agency Agreement form, signed by the guardian and your parents. The Guardianship Agency organises accommodation in a home environment during holidays if pupils are unable to return home, and arrange any transport they may need.
Additional information and advice on guardianship can be found via AEGIS (The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students), an organisation that inspects and accredits guardianship providers in the UK and works to promote the welfare of international students. Full details are outlined in our Guardianship Policy, which includes a Guardianship Agreement form that needs to be signed by guardian and by parents and returned to us: Kingsmead School Guardianship Policy and Agreement. See their website for further details: www.aegisuk.net.
Located between Liverpool and North Wales, the Wirral peninsula has 25 miles of dramatic coastline, with Hoylake and nearby West Kirby hosting international water sporting events. Inland, there are many beautiful old villages, modern leisure attractions and extensive parks. Among them is Port Sunlight, a model village founded in 1899 by William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme, for his factory workers. It contains the Lady Lever Art Gallery whose collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings is internationally renowned.
Wirral is part of England’s Golf Coast, a golfers’ paradise with the world-famous Royal Liverpool Links course on Kingsmead’s doorstep. There is a total of 14 golf courses in Wirral alone and three “Royal” courses within the region – Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, Royal Birkdale in Southport, Royal Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire.
Across the Mersey is Liverpool’s stunning waterfront, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Liverpool is home to more museums and galleries than any other city outside London and the city made famous by the Beatles has recently being awarded UNESCO City of Music status.
Across the River Dee to the west is the rolling hills of North Wales and the majestic mountains of Snowdonia, perfect for outdoor pursuits.
Less than an hour away is Manchester, another vibrant city filled with educational opportunities while just 30 minutes away is Chester, a walled Roman city with unique 700-year-old Rows galleries.
